Can cofirm following:
slovenian bloke C13 opened UMD encryption and have 2 methods of booting homemade UMDs made from dvd-r's (dont laugh =).

Methods is a bit laser tuning and 1 of 2 - 1. USB to PC and running some tray util. 2. Modding of MS duo reader port.

Just for your information.

They are figured out encryption tables in .PSP format and working on it also.

I am contacting that guy later by ICQ.

PS. They positively have working NFSUR backup running with 80% success sing methods 1/2 atm.

I'm not half as knowledgable as some people on this board but Pavel_ - these claims are outrageous.

1. What kind of encryption is "UMD Encryption" ?
2. Why on earth would the MS Duo port need to be modded?
(OK, I can see reasons why it would be useful but none are mentionned here)
3. 80% working?! Surely this is all-or-nothing. It is not like they are building an emulator with missing implementations.

It would be nice if you could really confirm this :)

According to them they are not ready to release full info yet, but in 14-28 days they promise first backup UMD.

1. CDProof modification, physical sector damage, like in PS2. Positive.
2. Dont know yet
3. They say there is random check every n-th second in games, so there is crashing happening 20% of times on any given moment.

They said, they have UMD press, but it is not capable of reproducing CDProof (or UMDProof) sectors, so they worked first on getting original UMD with scratched out 0 sector to boot - hence born 2 methods.

Will contact them later.
Cheers

This info seems to have some from some official development documentation... The guy didn't mention any NDA, but expect that it existed and either he or someone he knew violated it.

Contents of (some) Demo disk:
528 Bytes - PARAM.SFO
12171 Bytes - ICON0.PNG
120832 Bytes - ICON1.PMF
85299 Bytes - ICON1.PNG
82029 Bytes - PIC1.PNG
87212 Bytes - SND0.AT3
3387376 Bytes - DATA.PSP
11183216 Bytes - DATA.PSAR

The memory stick update (eboot) and I suppose any game have the same files(or part of them) packed in PBP.
Looks like the contents of a known eboot.pbp leak, not a demo UMD.

pavel, can we have this guys name?
i applaud anyone for being able to "backup" umds, but if hes streaming the umd backup's data to the psp via usb, then some sort of os hack is needed. can you ask him about it? And please clear up the memory slot issue.

oh yes, the "contents" of the umd is quite interesting as well....

Fishy, sounds like a scam to me.

Very fishy indeed... but nontheless interesting...
okay, details
i rekon theyre not streaming anything yet.
they claim to got hold of archive containing umd techology sheet including 3d pressforms etc, thus enabling them to use existing dvdpress.
they figured out, that umd read thru special protection, using inner rings of umd (gc like).first xperiment was to try to boot original umd with inner seectors black ed out by penmarker.that produced some bogus jap error screen [not seen before]. now they claim, they found 3 ways of bypassing it - laser head tuning[unconfirmed],pc/usb util [possibly dos'ing psp to produce overflow etc] with gives mixed results due to check in umd software,AND msduo port mod involving dummy card, 2 wires unconnected, others shorted...

please, this is my best translation of closed russian devforum.
jugde ifo by urself, might find something usual.

ps. main bratislava'n character calls himself C13.
and his group quote 'we will produce first umd demo made **legaly in no more than 14-28 days'. not my words

split then locked from another topic.

This is a discussion on people attempting to make backups of UMD discs. Sounds like people using commercial presses to do this. So this is a mass-warezing operation.

I am locking this topic because I do not think it is good for this site to tolerate this kind of activity even through discussion of it. I would say people coming to this site for this kind of news is not a good thing.

People continuing along the lines of this thread will be banned.
