It seems they are directly connected to the power connector (tested with a multimeter). My guess, as konfig said, would be that they will be used for a drop-in charger. Either that or perhaps used for an external device that requires more current than the usb port can output?

I have 3 games (ridge racers, ape academy and puzzle bubble) and all 3 have different loading screens, so no it does not appear to be a common interface.....
