I'm not an audio guy, so I hope this info is correct. First off the best place to start learning audio is in the SDK samples (surely?) there is a WAVE generator there. It'll create a nice sinewave that if you put high enough will give you a headache in a few seconds. ;) this should give you an idea ...

Hey all - someone brought me one of the PSP's GPS system devices to play about with. I've finally got round to giving it a go (it's been sitting here most of the summer). I'm trying out John Kelley's GPS test program, thinking that due to it being open source I can play around with it easily enough....

Hard to tell without the source. Could be an aliasing issue (trying to add two ints via pointers cast to the wrong type, etc).
I'm gonna release the code shortly, as warned it's not great. Just doing some final clean ups.

All worked fine until I got to the final stage. Once again bluescreens. However as it's an optional stage I'm continuing working and will look into the hardware issues. >_<

It does its work in the current directory. You most likely have bad hardware. Run memtest etc.
I did read the error and did run a few scan tools.
