Interestingly, this is Geohots comment on accessing the RSX from OtherOS: "And actually, the RSX being restricted is just theory as far as I know. OtherOS under the hypervisor may have the access required to write a 3D driver, just no one wrote one." Hmm, that doesn't seem right. Remember...

Two tips:

1. Install YDL 6.2 if you can. Better and faster, as far as I can tell, and it has the (50%) faster PS3VRAM from the RSX chip installed by default, as well as the 3.1 Cell SDK

2. Assume Jimparis is never wrong. It's a pretty safe assumption. ;)

Yeah, they use YUM. In the end (after a LOT of messing around) I managed to find that old VMWare again (it's still on the web somewhere) and used that. Now I have a Fedora 7 VMWare all ready to go with the 3.0 SDK and the Cell IDE installed, and can Run projects into a local Cell Simulator or on YDL...

Well, I'm testing it out, but I'm also running Ubuntu 9.04 on my PC, and I definitely see some advantages of that distribution so I don't consider it out of the question that I'll change my mind and go with that at some point. Ubuntu really seems a very solid distribution, very mature, efficient and...

I managed 9,5 words per minute in a small little test, which I then repeated on the PC where I got 101 words per minute (ten fingers, blind). The keys on the PSP aren't as good as the ones on a regular keyboard so I don't think I can manage 50 words per minute on it, but that would theoretically be ...

I think that layout makes sense. My layout was optimised for English language words, so that eventually patterns of letters would be easy to remember, combinations that frequently occur together would be close together, and frequently used letters would be assigned to easy to press button combinatio...

Ok, great. I'm trying to get some of my old projects to work on 5.0 M33-06 without installing the 1.50 firmware, but so far I'm finding it pretty difficult. Was worried that this was holding me back. The samples included in the sdk all still seem to be aimed at 1.5 and date back as far as 2005.

You're probably best off doing everything using the PPE/SPEs, as RSX drivers are still very much up in the air for the PS3 right now, and guarding your PS3 against firmware updates may be stressy. I would focus first on getting the simulation going on any number of SPEs (making that configurable), s...

Does your monitor support DHCP? This could be a problem if you're using HDMI/DVI.
