Doesn's openoffice have a PDF rendering engine? That's open source, so it might be something to look at for example code.

I don't mean stretching the image. I'm talking about the fact that several emulators have the image centered in the screen. Why doesn't it reach the top and bottom? It seems like you could use the full height of the screen and still preserve a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Forgive me if this is a newbie question, but assuming we had knowledge of how to access the USB port, would it be possible to program an app that would make the PSP function as a host?

How do you plan on dealing with controls? The PSX had an extra analog stick and two more shoulder buttons.
