So... if the PSP is using AES, it's either got multiple keys, or the key is randomly generated each time and is itself somehow stored in the save data. It is likely that AES keys are made with certain formula like, [random 4-byte-key] + [pre-defined 12-byte-key] [random 8-byte-key] + [pre-defined 8...

you see that it is a special psp, because it has NO umd slot.
no open button.
They don't call it a PSP but a CONTROLLER.
It's just an interface for devkit.

While its good to have this confirmed, you can start work on it now. The 'fake' firmware update already downloads to the memory stick whereupon it can be executed. It can be found under the 'game' menu in the PSP browser. On the memory stick, it can be found in the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE directory. Yeah,...

Game sharing feature

http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20407 To use Game Sharing in Namco Museum, the player with the game selects the transmit function from the game's menu, while the other player selects Game Sharing on the main menu of the PSP (it's the icon with two PSPs and arrows between them indicatin...

I read somewhere else that the umd movies will use the full resolution of the psp ( 480x272 ) which would result in 130560 pixel. now I'm wondering if sony cheats on us on the resolution and just scaling the umd movies to the full resolution or if the psp caps the playback of movies from the memory...

The hack basically patches the three locations within the first 0x1000 bytes of the .MP4 file, essentially forcing the file to appear as a 320x240 res file when the PSP makes its check. This appears to be sufficient to get the PSP to playback the remainder of the file at the appropriate resolution....

Re: PSP Memory sticks and videos

PSP is case sensitive. I guess real filename of MPV00002.MP4 would include lower case alphabets. Really? Linux seems to be stripping out all case stuff. Perhaps I am mounting it as the wrong file system. What does the PSP require, everything in uppercase, lowercase, or what? Some combinations work,...

Re: PSP Memory sticks and videos

I have in my PSP movie folder 3 identical MP4 files called: MPV00001.MP4, MPV00002.MP4, and MPV00004.MP4 However when using the video browser on the PSP only 2 copies of the movie appear. The first one and the third one. I suspect it's some kind of copy protection due to the magic-gate stuff. PSP i...

Remember there was a RIFF file somewhere too. I did check it only roughly though. A .wav file, huh ? Headers are broken, and contents is also highly compressed or crypted (still the same high-entropy in the bytes). upsual: could you try to zero-kill the RIFF file in there ? it's the 6th file (if st...

I got access to another PSP and was able to do something I wanted to see. Memorystick inserted with Ridgeracers savegame, no UMD = small, barely animated icon. Just some moving red stripes on a static background. When I insert the UMD, it changes to a nice little icon showing a lengthy movie of act...

Oh well. :)
As you could guess, different savefiles show different movie clips without UMD inserted. It was a pleasant surprise. ;)

Looking at the video of how the update appears in the menu: http://game.memopad.jp/special/psp/images/PSP_0001.wmv I notice there's a video playing beside the text. It makes me wonder where in the update this data is found. It would make sense that compressed video would appear similar to the struc...

4MB eDRAM is 2MB (for video memory) + 2MB (for VME)
8MB out of 32MB main memory is always reserved for OS.
