I am a noob to any type of programming on the PS2 and really have no idea what ya'll are talking about through these forums, but am interested and will try to learn :D . My question here is one that I'm not sure if it can be answered here but I thought that ya'll could help. Anyways I am a huge SOCOM II player and love to figure out the name coding (i.e. color changes - #C1---, and buttons in names - _52_Select_MSG) but want more. I was wondering if it was possible to have a picture stored on the disc as a name (i.e. The Mark 23 is labeled mark23_icon.tif - located in the \RUN\ZWEAPON.zar file on the PS2 disc). Ihave just started trying to figure this out but am stuck and don't even know if it is possible. Also I was thinking if I could access the sound files from the game and put that as a name, every time it accessed it would play the sound file - maybe?? Anyways, thanks for any help that is possible.

The short answer is no.

Its certainly possible to change these files into whatever you want, assuming they're standard picture and sound formats. The problem is you can't change them on a write-only medium. Making a new disc with these files wouldn't help either - you wouldn't be able to boot it or even play online.

As for using a picture or a sound file as a name you'd have to rewrite the name displaying code to do that. You'd also have to get everyone else to run this new code so they'd see the new ways of displaying a name. So, this isn't really possible without convincing the coders to put it into Socom III.
