What Linux Distribution do you think is best for a beginning programmer?
I am currently learning C++ and then I will learn the MIPS Assembly Language. What are your thoughts?

any distribution that you are familiar with, it really does not make any difference. what you need is the toolchain and good editor/IDE, and that you can find on many platforms.. unix, win, MacOS.

What is important about a distribution is the way you like the packaging and the configuration system (which I think debian is the best here). Otherwise, all the nix distributions will offer the same development features.

What drew me to Fedora Core 2 was that the install DVD was available via bittorrent. That's the best way to download hundreds of megs to gigs worth of data.
