Newbie Questions

Hi,

I will try to follow the different steps to build the last binutils and gcc for ee and iop. I guess I will not find much more problems. I'm currently running a 2.9-ee binutils and a 2.95.2-ee gcc.

I have installed the Linux for PS2 distribution coming with a sony HDD, after seeing the pack, I should have just bought the network adaptator, plug a normal disk and get a usb keyboard.

I would like to be able to upgrade this kernel version 2.2.1 to 2.6.7 and in the mean time install a driver for my usb ADSL modem.

I would like to know if someone has done that before on the PS2? I know I need to compile a lot of libraries and tools like glibc, modinit-tool and so on, but it will be interesting before starting having some feedback from the Gurus.

Cheers,
Lucien.

You'd be better off asking for help at the forums on playstation2-linux.com. Moved to Off-Topic.

Hi,

Thanks for the nice reply.
I don't think they are as advanced as your development.
Without thinking of any kernel side, I should still be able to compile with your patches at least the binutils and the gcc under Linux, isn't it!
It's where all start under Linux...

Cheers,
Lucien.

The ps2dev toolchain can't generate PS2/Linux binaries without a lot of modification. Even though both ps2dev and PS2/Linux toolchains generate ELF binaries, there are two many differences in the ELFs they generate. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply, is it better to start with your patches or should I try to restart from scratch to adapt the binutil and gcc to the PS2?

The binutils work, but it's the gcc that I have problem to compile.

Use the GCC patches from 2.95.2 shipped with the kit, the patches hosted on the ps2stuff project on playstation2-linux.com, and the patches hosted on the gcc project on playstation2-linux.com as a starting point for the Linux side of things.

Thanks,

if I get some errors can I come back here to see if you can still help?

Cheers,
Lucien.

I'm not interested in supporting GCC for PS2/Linux because I don't use it. If you do run into problems, I'm sure there are others in the PS2/Linux community who would be willing to help you, and even the GCC mailing lists would be helpful (and archives).

Thanks, I'll check the GCC list.

When compiling your solution, I have an issue with gcc and the c++ language option:

../../../gcc-3.2.2/libiberty/regex.c:7959: storage size of `re_comp_buf' isn't known
gmake[1]: *** [regex.o] Error 1
gmake: *** [all-target-libiberty] Error 2
