Still trying to boot Linux

Post by uglinux »

I've been recently given a PS2 (v. 4) that plays all formats (PS1, PS2, DVD movies) fine, but when I put in a PS2Linux DVD, I get a disk read error. I've cleaned the lens and have moved the gear/cog/doohickey, but still have had no joy.

I've got a USB keyboard connected, I'm booting to NTSC so I've mashed down the <Sel><R1> till my thumbs hurt, the mc is a genuine Sony card, so I'm pretty sure I'm holding my mouth right (tongue out to the side <G>).

Any other suggestions? Think my distro is bad?

Have you tried cleaning the linux disc? If it reads other discs fine, maybe it's not the lens that's dirty, but the disc giving the error. If it has a big scratch, you might need to use a disc repair kit. If all else fails, I know from visiting the Sony PS2 Linux Forum that Sony keeps a few linux discs in reserve to replace ones that go bad for customers. You might try getting on the Sony PS2 Linux forum for this problem.

SCEA has stopped distributing PS2Linux, but the SCEA rep on the PS2Linux forum has helped a few people replace their linux disc. Like I said, they have a FEW in reserve as replacements for customers.
