i recommend using xlink is available from here. Also be sure to edit the IPCONFIG.DAT to ps2ip netmask pcip. (make sure ipconfig.dat is all uppercase as well). If you dont have a switch or modern router (they sense is a cables straihgt through or cross over) you will need a cross over cable same as you would from pc to pc hope this helps :).

A cable modem will have a straight through cable it is easy to tell what you have by looking at the rj45 cables. If they are the same colours in the same order its a straight through(if one of them is crossed over it a cross over cable).

The pc to pc cable Hoaxer is telling you about is right and its called a cross over cable.

now just a little note i mae a mistake in the first post about the IPCONFIG.DAT its ps2ip netmask gateway.

You probaly know this but on the pc I would recoment you set a

static ip 192.168.1.1
netmask 255.255.255.0

and on the ps2
ip: 192.168.1.2
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

I had this when tried to boot PS2Execute on PS2 without ethernet adapter (or modem, how's that called?)

Most probably your LAN settings are wrong. Use what sluggybug1 adviced you. Open your Control Panel->Network Connections->LAN connection->TCP protocol, then select it's properties and there you should type in all that.
