Motion platform for PS2 games (Newbie)

Post by simbuff »

Hi all,

I'm new here, so I hope I have followed protocol. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything relating to my query, so here goes....

I don't know anything about PS2/3 programming (it's been a while since I did any programming!), but I have a product that I am looking to port to the PS2 for mainly commercial use, but would be useable by anyone interested. The product is a motion platform. I am hoping that, via a USB connection, it can be connected to a PS2/3, in order to provide motion simulation for games such as F1 or rally-type games, or any other game that would benefit from a motion platform. Examples that spring to mind are Colin McRae rally games, even Crash Bandicoot - as I said, anything that would benefit from any kind of motion! I am sure many of you will have seen F1 cars at exhibitions with a screen in front of the cockpit and a PS2 connected to provide the game. In essense, the F1 car just becomes a glorified steering wheel/pedal set. I have the ability to stick a full motion platform underneath such cars to make them move!

This product already works with PC (Windows, Linux etc.) applications. In order to drive the platform, the software needs to produce motion queues/commands. For applications such as Microsoft Flight Simulator/Combat Flight Simulator, there are third-party applications that provide this queuing information.

So, my question is, is it possible to add/develop a third-party application to existing software for PS2 to provide motion queuing, or indeed, are there any PS2/3 applications out there that already do? Does anyone have any experience in doing this, or would anyone be interested in helping me with this? I suppose lastly, do you think there would be any interest for this? :)

Thanks in advance for any replies!
