Problem with ps2

Hi
Recently my ps2 has started making loud noises, coming from the cd drive. The game freezes, normally during movie sequences. This happens in all games, so i cant blame it on a scratched disk. Can any1 suggest why this happens, and how i can fix it, if possible. If not, how much would a new console cost thesedays. I got mine about 2/3 years ago

This kind of question is answered all the time on www.ps2-scene.org. You can probably just do a search there. Fixing broken hardware doesn't seem to happen as much around these parts here, since these are dev related boards.
