Backuping my saved games off the mem card

Hi,
Due to common games saves file corruption that occur on some games (ie, soul calibur III), I wonder what is the easiest way to backup my saved games off the mem card.
I have a slim ps2 and already managed to establish a network connection using a crossed network cable. But I still need to connect to the ps2 in a way, perhaps FTP?
I heard ps2link might do the job, or FAPLink, but I'm not sure if these are more ment to copy iso's from the PC to the PS2 and not vice verca, from the PS2 memcard to the PC.
I got a hold of ps2link just to try it, burnt it on a cd and put it in the ps2 but the console didn't load anything..
I'll appreciate any help or if you can point me to a webpage that explains this proccess..
I already googled a lot but unfortunately "backup game save" give only results of playing backups on the ps2 which I'm not interested at...
Thanks in advance!
