Network Sniffing

Hey I have been trying to sniff the packets going from my ps2->router->internet and I am connected to the router also

Ps2 ....\
.......... router->internet
Comp../
And I'm wondering if I'm just trying to do this in vain or is it possible, also can anyone send me some tools over pm or such as to help me?

EDIT: Sorry if it's a stupid post.
Also I know all linksys routers, according to my knowledge have internal switches. I have come to the assumption that this problem can be overcome by utilizing a man-in-the-middle attack? If you don't want to talk about any type of hacking on this forum, I'll understand. But besides man in the middle attacks, since I havent figured them out completely yet, any other way to get this accomplished?
Oh yeah, one more thing, I used the search button before I posted, but there was nothing that answered my question.

There's a couple options available to sniff packets from the PS2. The method you described is not going to work because the router will not repeat the packets out to your PC.

You can sniff the ps2 packets if you have an old fashioned repeating hub (ie not a smart router).

Code: Select all

ps2 ---|
pc ---| hub | ---- router ---- internet
The other option is to use your PC as the gateway of the PS2. This requires the PC to have two connections. When I've done work on PS2 networking, I've had a configuration like:

Code: Select all

ps2 ---- cross over cable --- pc (notebook) --- wireless --- router --- internet
Hope that helps,

Thanks, yeah my custom has two connections, and come to think about it, so does the one i am on now, although pretty laggy most likely but thanks, this helps alot... so am I going to need to wire a crossover cable?
sounds like I am in need of a visit to the local radioshack :-P

EDIT: Ok, got the cable, can anyone help me configure this and what software should I use?

EDIT: Got that all figured out, now how do I block outgoing ports?
