The PS2 itself has no software support for any USB devices, it only has the port, but actually using it is up to the software you run, whether that be commercial games or homebrew programs (such as we develop here).
Some commercial programs support USB keyboards for text entry, and a few support USB storage devices for backup of gamesaves etc. The PS2 Linux kit is an original Sony product that also supports such things.
Some homebrew programs also support both those device types, such as the file manager uLaunchELF.

Even though this is the "General Discussion" board, please keep discussion at least some what development related, there are plenty of other sites on the Internet for general consumer issues.
