Ethernet port not properly working with ps2link

Ok, so I'm trying to use the network to upload executables.
I run PS2Link 1.24. 192.168.1.9 as IP, 255.255.255.0 as mask, 192.168.1.32 as gateway. I see it on the screen when I run PS2Link so this is ok.
Next I try to send files using ps2client 2.0.0 from a linuxbox. It only worked once (then it complained about the path but that was my fault) and I never managed to get it to work again, so I rebooted, ran PS2Link again and tried to ping the host.
65% packet loss.. hum.
So, I reboot with the Central Station CD. Connect and try ping. 0% packet loss this time. Network seems fine.
I suppose there's a different network driver being used (ps2ip.irx?). I noticed on http://playstation2-linux.com/ they warn about recent PS2 and problems with linux' ethernet driver. My PS2 is fairly recent (SCPH-50004 so I think this is a v9). Could it be my problem?
Any hint greatly appreciated, thanks.
