well i followed this guide to make saved games to my ps2 by cdr
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/cd2mem
when i arrived to this instruction:(Move down to cdfs as shown and press x. The contents of the CD will now show. Move to your npo and press Triangle on it.)
it says that the ELF is not a recognised one and when i check on my memory card for that saved game it says corrupted data.... wats the problem?..

In this method, using ps2savebuilder is the right way, but for transferts I rather like using ps2link on ps2 side, inlink(windows) or ps2client(cygwin) on pc side and start the ps2 program EXECFTPS.ELF (a ftp server).
Then from pc side, you just upload or download any saved game located on memory cards with flashfxp or maybe another ftp client (access to /mc/0 is erratic though, just insist a lot with refresh button. 0->mc0 1->mc1 2->mc0 3->mc1 etc... I think. So just focus on 0 or 1 for 1st and 2nd memory cards slots)

I'm using Swapmagic and uLaunchElf to get saved games to my mc0.
But my way's a little different.
First I open up Save builder with the Savegame I want. Lets say Save1.max, then I extract the files from it (files that are usually in a savegame are Icon.sys, static.ico and the savegame file... heres one from final fantasy xii, BASLUS-20963FF1202.) After extracting them I boot up my ps2 with uLaunchElf, and enter the memorycard, make a new folder named BASLUS-20963FF1202 (the 02 in FF1202 stands for slot 3, so if you have any other gamesaves on slot 3 you should save them on some other slot first, or rename the filename, but I'm not sure if that works)
Anyway, after creating the folder BASLUS-20963FF1202, you go into your PC using the FTP client that's in uLaunchElf and copy the files BASLUS-20963FF1202, Icon.sys and static.ico and place them in the new folder on the mc.
Then just pop the gamedisc in and play with the new save :)

That method, like any method based on FTP transfer, will only work with games that make no use of special memory card specific file attributes, and which do not demand that the timestamps used for any file/folder of a gamesave must match those recorded inside one of the files. FTP methods will also fail if any file or folder name contains any character not allowed for such names on your PC. (Some games are known to use such characters.)
For such gamesaves only a few methods can work well, and one of those is to convert the gamesave to PSU format and use uLaunchELF to browse the PC through the host: interface, and then transfer the gamesave as a normal 'Copy'/'Paste' operation in the uLE FileBrowser. Except that you use the 'psuPaste' command instead of normal 'Paste', so that the PSU file is expanded to the original gamesave format on the memory card, including all original timestamps and file/folder names and attributes.
Naturally you can also back up your existing gamesaves the same way, using the 'Copy' command to pick up any gamesave folder(s) from your memory card, and then navigating to host: (your PC) to store each folder as a PSU file with the 'psuPaste' command. The 'psuPaste' command works either way, depending on whether the memory card is source or destination for the transfer.
Such gamesave backups should work with every PS2 game in existence, which is somethihng you can't say for most other methods.

Oh, convert it to PSU eh...
Yes, that will probably work better, since some files inside the Savegame files that you download can't be extracted.
I tried using a GTA: Vice city save, but it had "Mission" files which could not be extracted, and therefore you could'nt use them. But the save loaded anyway, but you were still on the misson in the old save for some reason.
Oh, and about copying from PS2 mc0/1 to PC, well. I can't, I've tried but all options in the R1 menu are disabled, except copy and cut. do I need to do something special to enable it?

Yes. The ability for the PS2 to write/erase data on the host system is by default disabled, as a basic security measure, and it must be enabled by editing the CNF file 'by hand'. You can use either the uLE subprogram "MISC/TextEditor" to do this, or some text editor on the PC if you prefer.
The change needed is clearly described in the LAUNCHELF.CNF file that comes with each uLE release ZIP, as quoted below:
Code: Select all
# ----------------------------------------------------------------------
# NET_HOSTwrite is valid in v3.44 and later versions. It can enable
# the ability of the networked HOST interface to write on your PC HDDs!
# Users who want to avoid risks for their PC should leave it as default,
# which disables these new abilities. For safety reasons it can only be
# changed by direct user editing. Edit it to a non-zero value to enable
# the new abilities. (You'll need a very new ps2client.exe as well.)
# ----------------------------------------------------------------------
NET_HOSTwrite = 0
# ----------------------------------------------------------------------
So simply change that entry to:
NET_HOSTwrite = 1
That will enable all the same R1-menu entries that you normally have on hdd0: for host: as well.
Btw:
It might be a good idea for you to also read the rest of that CNF file from the latest release ZIP, as some things are documented only in that file, the old documentation project being long abandoned and hopelessly obsolete.

Hey All,
This is how I do it.
1. Prepare a save with Save Builder to a npo file
2. Copy the NPO to the directory on your PC where you have the ELF for PS2MENU located.
3. Fire up X-Link on your PC and then PS2Link on your PS2, ensure the PS2 and PC can see one another.
4. In X-Link load the PS2MENU ELF file from the directory where you have it stored.
5. Now go to your PS2, and press R1 and select HOST from the menu, this will take you to the directory where the PS2MENU elf is. Locate the nop file and press the Triangle button, this will extract this to your mc0.
6. Pop a game disc in and enjoy your new save!
I tried this with GT4 and works a treat, once I figured it out, its a fairly quick thing to acomplish.
Now all I need to work out is how to go the other way.
Cheers
Jacko
