PSP Security v2

Post by dave0000 »

I've searched the forums through the masses of threads as per Drakonite's suggestion. I've tried various search phrases but always end up with hundreds of results. I've been unable to find the answers to my questions and frankly I found the suggestion of 'try other places' rather unhelpful.

I've found a lot of conflicting information in these forums, who is correct? Has anyone got some concrete information perhaps a wiki or something with info in? So what if I'm a noob, please help dont just close the threads because if I cant find anything useful after searching what use is it to other people?

Right so can anyone point me to info/threads about:
PSAR encryption specifically how they're encrypted and what the psp checks in them. I already know its 128bit AES but more info would be useful.

Any info about the patch files, specifically how they differ from normal files in terms of encryption. How does the PSP prevent encrypted files from being played once they've been extracted? Presumably patch files are a normal executable or does the PSP have extra levels of security?

You get hundreds of results to searches because people keep asking the same damn questions.

There is too much crap on these boards coming up too often. You posting the samn thing again only adds more crap to the pile. If you really want to know the details you can start wading through the massive amounts of posts.

You will find more reliable information out by looking into things on your own, and if you can't figure those steps out it's highly unlikely you could ever do anything with that information.

The PSP "prevents" files from being played because it just doesn't play them. If they don't have everything correctly formatted/encrypted/signed it won't run them.

There are too many crap posts on these forums, and as it's said in the rules there are other places to discuss possible exploits and it is best to avoid it here. There are a lot of complaints that the forums are getting to full of crap posts. There is going to be some cracking down.

If you have a specific question, fine. But if you make another post with a very generic "how does security work?" question I will not only delete all your crap threads, I will ban you.
