Should there be a GS development forum ?

Post by Guest »

One more forum not seeing life for awhile, time to perk my ego!

The GS is one large component not having its own special forum
or place of discussion. Of course, most ps2dev efforts are revolving
around the IOP and necessary support code on the EE side. Even
the Vector Unit forum gets little play.

So maybe there is little value to a standalone GS forum, most
questions might just end up in the generic "Questions and Answers"
or be closely related to VU questions. But hey, I am anal about
completeness and wanted to put some activity here at the same time.
Won't bother me if no GS forum appears. :)

I wouldnt mind a GS forum, but I dont think there will be many questions ( but who knows ), the main reason for questions on these forums seems to be noobs who aint interested in dev, but to get things working and then as a big markerboard for ppl to discuss collaborative efforts like tools, ps2lib/ps2sdk etc. I think most of the "hey how should I set ALPHA_1" etc questions ends up at #ps2dev on efnet.

IMO we shouldn't create new forums unless there are enough postings in that area to justify creating one. I can't remember many specific postings about the GS.

IMO even the VU forum should be dissolved into the EE forum, as it gets very little traffic.

Well, I suppose the GS (and VUs) are part of the EE. It would make sense to merge them. I think the original reason I made a separate VU forum in the first place was because they have their own separate compiler... *shrug*

I second for having a separate GS-forum on hold.
but VU should stay, in the end it all comes down to how large the forum community gets, and one can only assume that it is still growing.

Sponsor a VU-only TTC contest. Get those creative threads started by giving a basic tutorial and some sample code. A nice kick in the arse like that gets things going. :)

whenever you ppl stop bitching about wxVU or other crap ive promised to finish :)

on a serious note, im not exactly sure what happened with the VU compos.
we do have the harness now so that issue is out of the way.
I guess the next step is some examples, and to announce a compo.

Wow,

Always nice to see good discussion :)

I agree with mrbrown that rather than create a GS forum,
it might make better sense to roll all "EE" functions into the
EE forum.

On the other hand, there is probably no need to rush into
doing that, maybe the VU forum should thus remain for a
while, if indeed it is growing. There is little traffic on it for
awhile, which is disappointing because they are cool little
buggers.

It seems that the IOP gets all the play on these forums,
but for good reason.
