Running homebrew on 1.52+

Post by tanis »

I am doing some research to get homebrewed apps to run on the 1.52+ version of the firmware. Is this kind of discussion acceptable on these forums?

That's because I would like to discuss about the way the updater works and find out if we could do something similar and let the console thinks we're running an update while in reality it is a different app.

We don't generally discuss the development of new exploits here, unfortunately.

Sorry!

As mentioned "exploits" are no longer discussed on this forum.
There are other boards that talk about exploits, but IMHO they are only good for the entertainment value ;->
[Newbie signs in saying "I don't know anything about programming, but here's my idea on how to run homebrew on 2.0...")

More serious answer:
If you check the "PSP Forum Archives" forum, you can find many older discussions about exploits. The basic problems haven't changed.

Other related topics are still discussed, and can be found on this forum. Including: the PSAR format (see "PSAR Dumper") and how to decrypt encrypted PRX files for educational purposes (see PSPSDK sample code). This includes the UPDATE program

Short answer: the UPDATE software is similar to other signed/encrypted apps. Since we can't run homebrew on 1.51 and up, trying to patch/tweek the UPDATE software won't work.
[Another approach is slapping together unchanged programs with tweeked PSAR data -- high risk of bricking a PSP -- off topic]
