independence day exploit help for a newbie?

Post by crimsonfx »

hello all,
i apologize in forward if this is a repeat of other forum questions, but i cannot find answers to nagging details that are so tiny and vaguely explained, so i might as well say it straightforward.

i have been reading of the independence day exploit and have a fairly good idea of how it works, i also have a ps2linux kit with sufficient functionality to transfer files. basically what i want to do is get the exploit file ( with a built in ps2link i think ) onto the card so i can run homebrew using ps2link (truly i dont know how ps2link would work)
the problem is with 'reload1' the first step- for the life of me i cant figure out if reload1 is a program you run that reboots the ps2 from the linux command line (tried it, says 'bus error'), or if you use its source code with the ps2 compiler on the PC side). i think you have to...
-attatch nPort to reload1 file and make an .elf ( using the compiler on the PC )
-send that elf to the memcard with ps2linux so it can be loaded at the RTE (how would i do this?)
-boot ps2linux using that elf, which i think will run nPort
-use nPort to transfer the exploit to the memcard ( ??? )
-exploit contains homebrew elf file you want it to run
-insert an exploitable ps1game and the memcard, turn on ps2, and elf will run instead of game.
is that right?
basically, how can i set up the reload1 file ( at the RTE i think ) to load the native OS which will then start nPort ( by then i can at least transfer the exploit )?
Thank you very much ahead of time for any advice you can offer. im sure its a tiny simple damn thing that needs to be adjusted! ;)
cheers!
