Replacing already installed Linux

Post by Animal »

Hi,

I'm new to Linux (and PS3 which my son got for Christmas) and installed Ubuntu fine, but want to replace it with YDL. I wont go into which one is better as I don't know, I would just prefer to have YDL on.

Can I reformat the partition without losing the Game OS data/info and then install YDL ?

What is the best way of doing this without losing everything ?

Thanks in advance.

Just go through the YDL install as usual and let it overwrite whatever's there. There is no way to mess up the Game OS data from within Linux.

Hi,

I just tried that and it keeps going into Ubuntu.

It seems to start of OK (finds the otheros on the YDL DVD), but ends up into the ubuntu username / password screen.

The kboot should find the kboot.conf on the DVD and use that instead of the one on the HD, but it sounds like it's not. I dunno. Try asking YDL support.

Thanks Jimparis,

I was originally going to do that but noticed you have to pay and become an enhanced member. As I'm new to linux I was hoping not to have to do that.

Ah well, I'll keep playing

Cheers
