Playing PMF files longer than a few seconds
Playing PMF files longer than a few seconds
Hi,
I'm making a game for the PSP and using SDL for sprite animation and all other stuff related to graphics. I would also like to be able to play movies. I found that the simplest way to play a movie would be by using the pmf player (I'm using a bit modified version of: http://dl.qj.net/index.php?pg=12&fid=7926). But the player stops playing the video after 6-7 seconds (It doesn't crash, just exit). I'm running 3.90M33 firmware on PSP SLIM.
Where's the problem? In my PSP SLIM, in my custom firmware, in the way I'm coding video files or in the pmf player (pmfPlayer.prx) itself? Or perhaps you can recommend a different way of playing video files.

TIA

I have searched through this forum and a few others and found nothing. Just the original pmf player by magiK (http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=5820) and every version of pmfPlayer.prx I download has the same limitation - movies stop playing after 6-7 seconds. Could you please be more specific.

Thanks sakya for the link - haven't tried that one before. I tried it now (all the versions with all the makefiles) and still the same - video stops after a few seconds. I've read that only the first 73 frames of the pmf file can be played, when using it as a gameboot. Is this the limitation of the pmf format or just the limitation when using pmf file as a gameboot file?
Anyway, here's one of the files I was trying to play:
http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/7 ... e-pmf.html
It's 2,23 MB big, and 16 seconds long. I can play only first 4 seconds. It would be great if someone tried playing this file on their PSP and tell me if it works.
Also if anyone has a pmf file longer than 6-7 seconds and can play it, it would be great to get a link so I can try it.

Hi! :)
I tried with this version and I can see the video you posted till the end (I think: does it end after a crash with the Burnout Legends title?)
I just took Ahman's version and linked it with pspmpeg (and removed the libmpeg directory).
I didn't test the "plain" Ahman's version...

I'm on CF 3.52M33-4 but I can test it also on 4.01M33-2 this evening.

Hi,
I tried your version sakya, and it's even worse. The sound is all messed up for the first 1 or 2 seconds and then there is no sound. The video stops after another 2 seconds, in the same place as before.
I don't think you can see the whole video. The video is 16 seconds long and the first frame is the same as the last frame. Get this codec and you will be able to play pmf files in your favorite video player in windows:
http://files.filefront.com/PMFplay+H264 ... einfo.html
It would be great if you could test it on 4.01M33-2. If it works there, I will definitively upgrade my firmware.
And yes, do you have PSP SLIM or PSP FAT?
